Lights, camera, action! I’m beyond excited to announce the official launch of brand-new TV and Film Production Company, 23 Up Films with me ole pal Paddy Shirley. After years of plotting, planning and getting way too excited about our ever-growing list of script ideas, the time has finally come to turn those dreams into reality!
Why 23 Up Films?
Paddy and I are friends since we were teenagers and met at the iconic Dublin Youth Theatre. Getting into DYT is an experience that really changed my life as a teenager because it provided me with the creative tribe of lunatics that I had always longed for. Many of those lunatics are still my close friends today and many are still working in all areas of the creative arts.
The significance of the 23 Up in our company name is a nod to our DYT years because the house that used to house the youth theatre was situated at 23 Upper Gardiner Street. Credit where credit is due – this was Paddy’s idea. If I had it my way, I’d have called the company ‘Madonna Productions’ ;o)
At 23 Up Films, our mission is simple: To tell bold, unapologetic stories that matter; stories that are funny, heartbreaking, messy and real. We’re focused on producing original, high-quality content across film and TV, with a special emphasis on female-and LGBTQ+-centric stories. With a splash of Irish language thrown in, coz I LOVE that!
We’re Taking Our First Big Step at the Galway Film Fair
But wait, there’s more! I’m thrilled to announce that 23 Up Films will be at the Galway Film Fair Marketplace this year. We’re diving right into the heart of the Irish and international film scene, and we can’t wait to connect with filmmakers, industry professionals and fellow creatives who are just as excited about creating amazing film and tv content as we are.
